Imagining the way to express identity in a fully-automated society, based on the phenomenon of creating a virtual persona today. How will this phenomenon develop in the future? How might its appearance of identity be extreme in the future? Vanished parts of the human body differentiate us from robots and others. It is a way of visually entertaining yourself and others. However, when everyone has their own unique identity, it is no longer unique. In an effort to distinguish themselves from others and robots, they alienated themselves in a meaningless way.

The Bell
Typography
2021

A reinterpretation of the old novel ‘The Bell’. Taking inspiration from the submerged bell itself, I etched the last sentence of the novel onto a metal plate.
In the last chapter, all the secrets of the bell are revealed, and I wanted to convey that feeling. The acrylic refers to the water, and when they are all out, there is a sentence composed of fragments.

Speculating on the future role of the graphic designer. The premise of increasing demand for identity, as a future graphic designer, I am doing gender design. 5 different new genders are suggested in a video and visualized by 3D motion graphics.

Redesigned OASE#79
Book Design, Typography
2020

Redesigned an architecture publication OASE. The half-transparent paper is intended to give a sense of a blueprint in the architectural process, as well as a cloudy feeling in the imagination of architects. Using overlaid pages and typesetting, I tried to convey an abstract sense of the ideation process of an architect.

WORK
Poster
2019

Inspired by the water reflection on a glass. It was interesting to see that the straight lines and abstract lines were in harmony because of the distortion of the glass. I tried to express these two characteristics in typography.

Poster design

Unselected Proposal

Poster Design for the annual art event from Sejong Art Center. It is an event that presents programs created by professional and new artists in harmony.
I used florescent colors and bold typography to express the birth of new creativity and take a waveform of sound as a graphic motif. Those two central motifs are overlapped together in an abstract form to illustrate an intangible beauty.

나랑 상관 없잖아
Installation, Typography
2023

Agency: Everyday Practice
Art Direction: Joonho Kwon
Contribution: Lettering

I had an opportunity to do lettering for one of the works in the 10th-anniversary exhibition of Everyday Practice during my internship.
‘나랑 상관 없잖아’ means ‘It has nothing to do with me’ in Korean. I tried to transmit the feeling of indifference and irresponsibility through atypical typography.

Workers Magazine
Zine, Typography, Editorial Design
2023

Agency: Everyday Practice
Art Direction: Joonho Kwon
Contribution: Lettering, Design

Workers Magazine covers social and labor problems. Issue 99 deals with the issue of movement rights protests for the disabled. The title is ‘People Who Cross the Line’. I wanted to elaborate on that title in an intuitive way using safety lines in the metro and diverse people who are related to this issue. It shows that everyone is crossing the line, implying that this is not just a problem for the disabled.

Conceptualize collected images using keywords like circles, lines, repetition, etc. The typeface ‘Goofy’ is used on the book cover and for small titles in the book.

I have designed a 3D mascot for the new coffee brand called DripDrop. This brand is a collaboration between a beer brewery, and they desire an intimate yet confident image for their mascot. Taking inspiration from that, I came up with the concept of a leopard wearing a leopard pattern jumpsuit.
